Acceleradora

The Film Accelerator is a dynamic, creative workshop designed for emerging filmmakers looking for an authorial challenge. It is an eleven-day series of intensive encounters guided by veteran directors who contribute their experience and accompany each participant in the creation of an individual work. Lucrecia Martel and Werner Herzog have added new dimensions to the working methodology conceived by Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami to boost participating filmmakers’ creativity, experimentation and collaborative work.

WERNER HERZOG

Werner Herzog returned to the lunar landscapes of Lanzarote to push the limits of creativity with an international group of filmmakers keen to create alongside one of the greatest directors in the history of cinema. Rebellion, utopia and surrealism, amidst the beauty and strangeness of volcanic landscapes are just a few of the themes that unite Werner Herzog with Lanzarote, and that fed their new creations.

“Any work of art is an opening of unreality that magically expands into our real surroundings; it is a floating imaginary island, surrounded by reality on all sides.”

“Werner Herzog inspired us to go into the field and follow our vision of cinema without hesitation. Thanks to that, I gained more confidence in my approach to filming and the nerve to simply follow my instincts."

Elisa Baccollo

“This workshop broke me out of years of overthinking and overanalysing and reconnected me to the fundamentals of storytelling. Just picking up the camera and telling a simple story gave me license to, as Werner instructed me, ‘go wild and be strange."

Kurt Ravenwood

“Directing is not just about framing. Above all, it’s about directing people and getting along well with others. There is an urge to tell good stories that communicate something to everyone. The sentimentality versus the sensitivity that can drive things. What Werner considers a film mission or even a life mission may have remained in each of us."

Poline

“Participating in the workshop was not only a great opportunity in my career as a professional filmmaker and creator of images, but a real-life experience that will definitely leave" a lasting impression on my way of conceiving film, the creative process, observation of my surroundings and the never-ending search for my own outlook.”
